The Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is part of the 100,000 Genomes Project. Your genome is the instructions for making and maintaining you. It is written in a chemical code called DNA. The project aims to aid research and improve diagnosis and clinical outcomes by collecting DNA samples from thousands of patients who choose to take part. These then go through a process of sequencing – ordering the DNA.

The Trust was designated a genomic medicine centre by NHS England in December 2014, and aims to collect about 4,000 samples from 1,600 patients.

The Oxford NHS Genomic Medicine Centre is recruiting more patients to take part through partnerships with trusts in the Oxford AHSN region:

  • Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust
  • Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
  • Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust
  • Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust
  • Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
