Diagnosing myocardial infarction with rapid point of care test

The Oxford AHSN is working with Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Service (BSPS) on their service evaluation of the Siemens Healthineers Atellica® VTLi patient-side immunoassay analyzer and high sensitivity troponin test in emergency departments (ED). The test supports rapid diagnosis of myocardial infarction (heart attack) and is performed in ED at the point of care, instead of in the laboratory.

It is anticipated that the rapid turnaround of test results will enable clinicians to make more timely diagnoses and decisions around the best treatment pathway for patients. This should lead to better patient outcomes, with shorter hospital stays and quicker turnaround times through ED with patients not waiting hours for test results.

The Oxford AHSN will provide health economic support aiming to demonstrate cost- effectiveness of the test to enable adoption and spread through the NHS trusts partnered with BSPS and beyond.
