The Innovation Exchange

The Innovation Exchange is a co-ordinated approach by England’s 15 Health Innovation Networks to identify, select and support the adoption of innovations that improve our economy and patients’ lives. Funded by the Government’s Office for Life Sciences, the Innovative Exchange builds on Health Innovation Networks unique expertise and cross-sector connections, enabling us to identify common challenges and quickly bring people and organisations together to develop, test and spread proven innovation. It has four structured elements:

1. Needs definition

We support our health and social care providers and integrated care systems (ICSs) to identify proven solutions to existing challenges.

2. Innovator support

Innovator support is provided by all HINs. There is a consistent and co-ordinated offer to innovators wherever they are identified in the system.

3. Real world evaluation

Real world evaluation is informed by regional and local need and seeks to provide the information and evidence needed to enable adoption of the innovation in a variety of settings.

4. Spread and adoption

The Innovation Exchange supports the adoption of innovations on a national, regional and cross-regional basis.

Innovation and Insight Panels

As part of our “Innovation Exchange” offer to innovators and to improve the support provided to the local healthcare system, Health Innovation Oxford and Thames Valley has established a series of Innovation and Insight Panels (IIP).

Each IIP focuses on a different clinical theme and provides innovators with a forum to review adoption-ready innovations with relevant system stakeholders from across the region. Innovators receive direct feedback from potential end users, commissioners and procurement leads on their value proposition and potential fit with local system needs.

We then facilitate introductions and follow-up activity based on expressed interest, which could include real world evaluations and/or local adoption of the innovation.

The first one focused on respiratory. Future interests include maternity, mental health and severe mental illness, cancer, hypertension and cardiovascular disease.
