PRO-MAPP is a digital platform providing intelligent decision support to optimise the preoperative assessment triage and stratification of high-volume low complexity (HVLC) orthopaedic cases. It follows National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance NG45 and elements of the Centre for Perioperative Care guidelines to identify the required preoperative investigations and medically complex cases. This digital transformation of preoperative assessment workflow allows personalised care for patients on surgical waiting lists and early patient optimisation in the clinic pathway. This new approach is being used prior to planned hip and knee replacement surgery at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre (NOC), part of Oxford University Hospitals.
This project will develop evidence from the implementation of PRO-MAPP at the NOC to assess its impact. The service evaluation will be used as a decision support tool on whether to expand the use of the PRO-MAPP and potential spread and adoption into other specialities. This work includes a health economic evaluation to support business case development (available on request) and an environmental sustainability assessment as well as feedback from patients and the workforce.
This initiative received funding from the NHS Transformation Directorate Adoption Fund which supports elective recovery through innovations that help people stay well or get well at home. The Oxford AHSN led a successful bid with the Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West (BOB) Integrated Care System (ICS).
