All 12 memory clinics for dementia patients in the Oxford AHSN region have achieved a national ‘gold standard’ quality benchmark.
It means thousands of people with dementia and their carers now get accredited care wherever they live in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Milton Keynes and Oxfordshire.
The Oxford AHSN appointed an experienced memory clinic nurse Maureen Cundell to work with half the memory teams enabling them to share ideas, best practice and protocols and work towards meeting the standards of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCP) Memory Service National Accreditation Programme (MSNAP).
They achieved this target in 2016. Now all the remaining memory clinics in the Oxford AHSN region have matched the standard of the best, completing a process which began when three Berkshire clinics achieved accreditation in 2014.
Rupert McShane, Clinical Lead of the Oxford AHSN Dementia Network, said: “This is great news. The Oxford AHSN Dementia Network identified this as a priority area and put plans in place to support this process. Patients and carers can be reassured that all memory clinics in our region are now meeting this high standard.”
