Innovators make their pitch for investment

Eight start-up companies have done all they can to convince an expert panel that their innovation is worthy of ongoing support.

Their pitches on 29 November marked the culmination of the first Oxford AHSN Accelerator programme. Programme partners BioCity will now decide which of the business ventures offers the strongest sustainable solution to a proven NHS need.

The wide-ranging innovations relate to drug discovery, diagnostics, digital health and service delivery. Over the eight-week programme the cohort tested their concepts with expert mentors from industry, investment and healthcare worlds. Online peer-support enabling the exchange of ideas and construction of collaborative business models was facilitated by Kandu.

There were two awards on the day. They were won by:

  • CanSense – Best presentation
  • Cotswold Health Technologies – Best insight

The winners are pictured with Ayokunmi ‘AJ’ Ajetunmobi of BioCity and Julie Hart of Oxford AHSN.

Julie, Director of Strategic and Industry Partnerships, said: “It was great to see how much each of these start-up companies has learned through our first Accelerator programme. We’re now eagerly awaiting the final results and finding out which of them has won the investment and ongoing support to develop their innovation.”
