Improving prostate MPMRI

NICE guidelines for prostate cancer state that Multiparametric-MRI (MPMRI) should be performed in patients with suspected prostate cancer following a negative biopsy which can be painful. According to published data is it now best practice to perform MPMRI on all patients prior to the biopsy.

The Imaging Clinical Network undertook an audit of the patient pathway for all seven acute trusts across the Oxford AHSN region. This looked at the data to understand capacity, facilities and infrastructure as well as the diagnosis pathway. The network is working with the trusts to adopt a uniform pathway that benefits patients by reducing unnecessary procedures and inappropriate referrals.
