The Imaging Clinical Network has worked with trust IT systems in the Oxford AHSN region to set up and install a cross-organisational image and data sharing system (Insignia). This is to be used for second opinions, specialist on-call networks, service evaluation and research. All seven acute trusts in the region have agreed to share data over this system, utilising an overarching Information Governance agreement developed by the Oxford AHSN Informatics team.
Through this project the Imaging Clinical Network is supporting efficiency in the system which will allow true medical networking for the benefit of patients. This approach could show improvements in other departments as well as Radiology.
The agreement to either use a standard Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) or enable interrogation of a network of hospitals PACS has been a major achievement. The Insignia PACS system has been installed in Oxford, Reading, Milton Keynes and Bucks, with Bedford following early in 2017.
