Putting information in the hands of patients to improve their health

One follow-up from the first Leading Together course is a project to get tailored health information into the hands of patients and the wider public.

The pilot issue of the Local Health Bulletin focuses on three Oxford AHSN projects where patient awareness is essential in achieving health improvements:

  • Atrial fibrillation
  • Early inflammatory arthritis
  • Antibiotic prescribing to children.

It also includes information on self-care and how to get involved in shaping health services.

The initial Local Health Bulletin is a collaboration between Oxford Academic Health Science Network, Newbury and District Clinical Commissioning Group and Healthwatch West Berkshire.

Hundreds of copies have been distributed via GP surgeries, shops, hair salons and elsewhere. Feedback from this trial is being gathered and will be included in a report to the West Berkshire Patient Panel. This will inform decisions around extending the distribution of the initial bulletin and potential follow-ups focusing on raising awareness in other health areas.
