Imaging Network’s MRI film wins international prize

A patient information video produced for one of the Oxford AHSN’s clinical networks has won a prize in an international competition.

What is it like having an MRI scan?’ has had more than 2,000 views since being posted on YouTube. It features a patient and radiographer explaining what to expect when undergoing an MRI scan. Read more about the project here

The film was made by Oxford Medical Illustration (OMI) which has gone on to produce further patient information videos for the Oxford AHSN Imaging Network which identified a need for films of this type to help patients prepare for diagnostic tests in hospital.

‘What is it like having an MRI scan?’ received a silver award at the annual Institute of Medical Illustrators conference in October. Another OMI video also won a prize.

Roddy McColl, OMI’s head of service, said: “Patients are really engaging with it because it helps them to be clear about their treatment options and facilitates shared decision-making. They can see what treatment they’re going to get in advance which can really boost their confidence and reduce anxiety.”

Jim Tustian, OMI video producer, said: “We see these awards as recognition of the high production values that we always aim for, we’re constantly looking to improve and innovate.”

OMI is part of the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
