The Oxford AHSN and Health Education Thames Valley are supporting a Masters qualification which will give successful candidates a real opportunity to improve patient care.
The application process is under way for seven Fellowship posts starting in autumn 2014.
The aim of the MSc in Evidence-Based Healthcare (EBHC), delivered through the University of Oxford’s Department of Primary Care Health Sciences and Department of Continuing Education, is to improve the use of research knowledge in clinical practice through flagship demonstration projects.
It is a flexible three-year programme taking up approximately 35 days per year, including frequent visits to Oxford. Each Fellow will be supported throughout by a mentor and academic supervisor. The programme includes an in-depth dissertation ideally related to the work of one of the Oxford AHSN’s clinical networks.
Dr Paul Durrands, Chief Operating Officer at the Oxford AHSN, said: “We are looking for a good geographical and professional spread – including nurses and allied health professionals as well as doctors. They will be highly motivated health professionals with bright ideas that can be turned into better care in their localities and much further afield.”
Applicants need:
- a relevant degree
- at least two years work experience
- to be a registered clinician, living and working within the area covered by the Oxford AHSN
- evidence of full support from their host organisation
Students will complete six modules:
- Practice of evidence-based healthcare
- Introduction to study design and research methods
- Evidence-based diagnostics and screening
- Knowledge into action
- Mixed methods in health research
- A module chosen by the student from the EHBC programme
In year three, Fellows will be helped to get a demonstration project up and running in their workplace – and to share their knowledge and expertise with clinical networks and beyond.
The Oxford AHSN will meet the programme costs for the seven successful Fellows, but not any costs that may be incurred by the student, their host organisation or employer.
